Kylie Jenner announces Kylie Cosmetics collaboration with Balmain
Kylie Cosmetics is headed to Paris Fashion Week in an official capacity.
On Tuesday, Kylie Jenner announced that her makeup company’s latest partnership will be with Balmain, the high-fashion French brand helmed by Kardashian family friend Olivier Rousteing.
“Paris is always a good idea 🇫🇷 surprise.. KYLIE X BALMAIN,” Jenner captioned a sneak peek at the forthcoming collection, which will hit her website in just three days.
The self-made billionaire also added the hashtag #PFW, hinting that models on Rousteing’s runway may be sporting makeup from the brand on the same day the makeup collection will be available for fans to purchase. WWD confirmed that the 22-year-old mogul will serve as the artistic director of makeup at Friday’s show.
According to WWD, the collection includes lip color, eye shadow and “accessories incorporating makeup” such as bracelets and belts that double as eye shadow compacts and knuckle dusters that contain lip gloss. The inspiration, she said, came from the pastel pink jumpsuit by Balmain that she wore to the Grammy Awards earlier this year.
Jenner is expected to arrive in Paris on Wednesday to help cast models and prep for the show. She will also be backstage, tweaking the models’ makeup before they walk out on the runway.
“She wanted to know when the first makeup artist will be arriving backstage, so she’s going to be there at 7:30 a.m. to be the first to work on all the models,” Rousteing told WWD. “There’s a definite look for the show, but within that, each girl will have different makeup depending on their skin tone and the clothes they’ll be wearing.”
The collection will, of course, have fashion-themed names like the Model Behavior high gloss ($16), the Paris Matte lip kit ($29) and a nine-shade eyeshadow palette that includes Close the Show, Attitude and Top Model ($42).
This is Kylie Cosmetics’ first foray into high-fashion partnerships. Jenner has previously only launched collaborations with sisters Kim, KhloĂ© and Kourtney Kardashian, as well as ex-BFF Jordyn Woods. She even named a collection after daughter Stormi Webster.
It’s no surprise, however, that Jenner would turn to trusted friend Rousteing. Members of the family have sported his clothing at the Met Gala, sat front-row in his fashion shows and promoted the Balmain brand in many ways. Kendall Jenner has also been a staple model on the Balmain runway and in campaigns for the last five years.
The splashy collaboration is just the beginning of Rousteing’s foray into the cosmetics world. While Balmain created a capsule collection of lipstick with L’OrĂ©al Paris in 2017, the luxury brand is gearing up to launch its own cosmetics line and revive its fragrance division.
