Kanye West donates $1M to prison reform charities for Kim Kardashian’s birthday
Kanye West outdid himself for his wife’s birthday.
The “Jesus Is King” rapper celebrated Kim Kardashian‘s birthday in Palm Springs over the weekend with her family and surprised her with “the most amazing bags,” but those weren’t her favorite birthday gifts. West also donated $1 million to charities that focus on prison reform.
“I got amazing gifts from my whole family and Kanye for me the most amazing bags. But he also donated $1 million to my favorite charities that work so hard on prison reform on my behalf from him and the kids,” she tweeted late Monday. “This makes my heart so happy!”
Kourtney Kardashian lauded West’s gift, commenting, “Kanye has the most generous heart, it is inspiring.”
She included a certificate West, 42, had made that revealed which charities he chose: #Cut50, Buried Alive Project, Equal Justice Initiative and the Anti-Recidivism Coalition.
“We are deeply appreciative of Kanye, Kim, and the entire West family for their thoughtful gift. #cut50 has worked with Kim over the past year on some of our most important campaigns,” Michael Mendoza, National Director of #cut50, told Page Six in a statement on Tuesday.
“Our entire team is grateful for her continued commitment to fighting for freedom and dignity on behalf of the 2.2 million people incarcerated in America and the millions more who are impacted. We are thrilled to see our incredible partners at Anti-Recidivism Coalition, Equal Justice Initiative, and Buried Alive Project also receive these much-needed funds.”
Mendoza added, “Personally, as a formerly incarcerated leader at the helm of this incredible program, I am deeply honored by Kim and Kanye’s belief and investment in my leadership and our team at #cut50. I spent more than half my life behind bars and was told by society that I was beyond redemption. Today, I am filled with hope at the mass potential these funds will unleash from the leadership of others like myself who know the system from the inside and will fight alongside us to change it.”
Kim has dedicated a lot of her time advocating for criminal justice reform and has seen success in helping various prisoners released, including Momolu Stewart and Alice Marie Johnson.
