Gwyneth Paltrow reveals inspiration behind viral Goop vagina candle

Gwyneth Paltrow‘s viral vagina candle started as a joke.

The Goop founder, 47, explained the inspiration behind her $75 “This Smells Like My Vagina” votive during an appearance on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” on Wednesday — and joked that she was on mushrooms when she came up with the name.

Paltrow said she was with Douglas Little, her personal perfumer and collaborator on Goop fragrances, when she smelled “this beautiful thing” and joked that it smelled like her nether regions.

“I was kidding, obviously,” she told Meyers. After having a laugh, the name stuck.

The sold-out candle’s “funny, gorgeous, sexy, and beautifully unexpected” scent is actually a blend of geranium, citrusy bergamot, cedar, Damask rose and ambrette seed, according to the website.

Paltrow’s husband, producer Brad Falchuk, has yet to weigh in on what he thinks of the name or the aroma.

“I think women, a lot of us have grown up feeling certain degrees of shame around our body or whatever,” the star added, calling the choice of name “a little punk rock.”

“So this is just a little bit of, you know, a subversive candle for all of us out there.”

Though the candle did light up social media and create major buzz, not everyone was a fan; Martha Stewart, who has a long-running feud with Paltrow, said she “wouldn’t buy” the product.

“I’m sure it sold out,” Stewart, 78, said during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live,” adding that it’s “horny guys” who are buying the item. “She does that kind of irritating … she’s trying to zhush up the public to listen to her. And that’s great, I mean, let her do her thing.”
