Harry Styles wears black ribbon to BRIT Awards after ex Caroline Flack’s death
Harry Styles paid silent tribute to the late Caroline Flack at Tuesday’s 2020 BRIT Awards.
The “Adore You” singer, 26, stepped out on the red carpet wearing a maroon Gucci suit with a purple sweater, lace-collared blue shirt, lavender manicure and pearl necklace. He also sported a subtle black ribbon on his left lapel, an apparent symbol of mourning after his ex-girlfriend’s death.
Flack, whom Styles dated in 2011 after One Direction gained popularity on “X-Factor,” died at the age of 40 by suicide on Saturday. The “Love Island” host’s passing comes just weeks before her court date on assault charges by boyfriend Lewis Burton, who previously accused her of hitting him with a lamp in December before later recanting the allegations.
Though Styles has not addressed Flack’s death, his mother Anne posted a poem on her Instagram on Sunday with the caption, “May you have found your peace @carolineflack,” along with a broken heart emoji.
The British dating show paid tribute to Flack during its latest episode on Monday; Iain Stirling, who co-hosted the series for the past five years, said, “all absolutely devastated by the tragic news that Caroline, a much-loved member of our ‘Love Island’ family, has passed away. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this dreadful time.”
This marks Styles’ first public appearance since he was robbed at knifepoint on Friday and since the news of Flack’s passing. He is set to perform at the awards show, and it’s speculated that he’ll sing “Treat People With Kindness” as a nod to Flack and her struggle with mental health issues and cyberbullying.
He is nominated for Album of the Year for “Fine Line,” as well as for Male Solo Artist.
