Meghan Markle has been saving a Cartier watch for her daughter since 2012
Meghan Markle’s baby girl stands to inherit some very fashionable genes — along with a particularly special piece of jewelry.
“I’ve always coveted the Cartier French Tank watch,” Markle, 39, told Hello! magazine back in 2015. “When I found out ‘Suits’ had been picked up for our third season – which, at the time, felt like such a milestone – I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version.”
Continued the Duchess of Sussex, “I had it engraved on the back, ‘To M.M. From M.M.’ and I plan to give it to my daughter one day. That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them.”
Markle’s version of the Tank Française retails for $6,200, making it an accessory worth keeping in the family for generations to come.
Coincidentally, the duchess’ late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, owned two versions of the very same watch: a Tank Louis, which features an alligator strap, and a Tank Française in yellow gold.
It’s believed that Prince Harry, 36, inherited the latter after his mother’s death and eventually gifted it to Markle, as she was seemingly spotted wearing it during a Fortune magazine virtual summit in 2020.
Markle revealed that she and Harry were expecting a baby girl during their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired on CBS on Sunday, March 7.
For the sit-down, the Duchess accessorized her symbolic lotus-print Armani dress with two more special Cartier pieces: her yellow gold Love bracelet ($6,550) and Princess Diana’s diamond tennis bracelet, which Harry used to make her three-stone engagement ring in 2017.
“They wanted to wear the bracelet to have [Harry’s] mother there with them during the interview,” a spokesperson for Markle told the “Today” show.
Cartier also provided the Duchess’ wedding jewelry when she said “I do” to her prince.
