Anthony Hopkins was asleep in the Welsh countryside for his Oscar win
Anthony Hopkins was fast asleep in the Welsh countryside when he won an Academy Award on Sunday night.
A source told Page Six: “Anthony was sound asleep when he won, it was the middle of the night in Wales. He woke up stunned, but very excited.”
The insider summed up, “life in the countryside.”
The star of “The Father” also posted a message in the morning from a field in Wales expressing shock that he won, and praising fellow nominee Chadwick Boseman.
“Good morning. Here I am in my homeland of Wales … at 83 years of age I did not expect to get this,” Hopkins said as the oldest thespian to ever win Best Actor.
“I want to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who was taken from us far too early,” he added.
Some fans were upset on Twitter that Boseman did not posthumously win for his role in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”
We previously reported that as buzz heated up for the Oscars, Hopkins had decamped to Wales. A source told us earlier this month: “He’s currently in Wales, after spending most of the pandemic in California. He returned home to the Welsh countryside just in time to be honored by his fellow countrymen with the BAFTA.”
The star was spending his time going on walks and painting. He’d also posted a message on Twitter saying, “Trees, brooks, and books … Back home in Wales,” and a pic sitting on a park bench with the caption, “Serene Sunday with love.”
The awards marked Hopkins’ second Best Actor Oscar since winning for “Silence of the Lambs” nearly 30 years ago.
No word on when he’ll get his Oscar statue.
