Prince Harry and Oprah Winfrey’s mental health doc gets a release date
Oprah Winfrey’s back on TV with Prince Harry.
The billionaire media mogul has announced that their mental health documentary is finally being released — two months after her bombshell interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shocked the monarchy.
Winfrey, 67, discussed her joint venture with Prince Harry while appearing on “The Drew Barrymore Show” alongside psychiatrist Dr. Bruce D. Perry.
“I want to just say that Dr. Perry and I have been also, for the past two years, along with Prince Harry and Apple, we’ve been working on this mental health series that’s coming out in May on Apple,” she said.
Page Six has confirmed the series will air to tie in with Mental Health Awareness Month.
The Apple TV+ series was first announced back in April 2019 and Prince Harry, 36, was named as a co-creator and executive producer.
“I truly believe that good mental health – mental fitness – is the key to powerful leadership, productive communities and a purpose-driven self. It is a huge responsibility to get this right as we bring you the facts, the science and the awareness of a subject that is so relevant during these times,” Harry said at the time.
“Our hope is that this series will be positive, enlightening and inclusive – sharing global stories of unparalleled human spirit fighting back from the darkest places, and the opportunity for us to understand ourselves and those around us better. I am incredibly proud to be working alongside Oprah on this vital series which we have been developing together for several months.”
Back in March, nearly 50 million people around the world tuned into Winfrey’s two-hour sit-down interview with Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle.
In the interview, biracial Markle, 39, claimed that a member of the royal family asked what color their children’s skin would be.
Prince Harry later revealed it was not Queen Elizabeth nor his grandfather, Prince Philip, who made the remark. The Duke of Sussex also said he’d never reveal the family member’s identity.
Markle also said that palace life had led her to consider ending her life.
Oprah said of teaming up with the royal: “I asked [Prince Harry] the question, ‘What do you think are the most important issues facing the world right now?’ and he said, ‘There are two’… He said climate change and mental wellness, mental fitness and mental health.”
Prince Harry has previously told how he went to therapy to learn to cope with his grief over his mother Princess Diana’s death. He also launched a mental health awareness charity, Heads Up, with his brother Prince William and sister-in-law Kate Middleton.
