Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus has announced that he has cancer.

On Wednesday, the 49-year-old musician alarmed fans when he shared a photo of himself on Instagram sitting in what looks to be a hospital setting with an IV in his arm.

Alongside it he wrote, “Hello, yes. One cancer treatment please.”

The photo was quickly deleted but not before concerned fans took a screenshot.

Hours later, Hoppus confirmed the sad news on Twitter, writing, “For the past three months I’ve been undergoing chemotherapy for cancer. I have cancer. It sucks and I’m scared, and at the same time I’m blessed with incredible doctors and family and friends to get me through this.

“I still have months of treatment ahead of me but I’m trying to remain hopeful and positive,” he continued. “Can’t wait to be cancer-free and see you all at a concert in the hopefully near future. Love to you all.”

Blink-182 was formed in California in 1992 and became MTV darlings with songs like “All The Small Things” and “What’s My Age Again?” Their musical style, a fusion of pop music and traditional punk rock, made them huge stars selling over 50 million albums around the world.

The band gained considerable attention for their 1999 video for “What’s My Age Again?” that saw the group’s founding members Hoppus, Travis Barker, and Tom DeLonge jogging naked in the street.

Hoppus, a California-native married MTV executive Everly Skye. They share 18-year-old son, Jack.
