Britney Spears apologizes for ‘pretending to be OK’ after conservatorship testimony

Two days after calling foul on her current conservatorship, Britney Spears has addressed the bombshell hearing — and the fans who’ve supported her through the ordeal.
Spears, 39, took to Instagram Thursday with a lengthy post in which she apologized for presenting her life as a “fairy tale” to concerned followers on social media.
“I believe as people we all want the fairy tale life and by the way I’ve posted … my life seems to look and be pretty amazing,” the pop star wrote alongside a quote attributed to Albert Einstein, reading, “If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.”
“I apologize for pretending like I’ve been ok the past two years,” she continued. “I did it because of my pride and I was embarrassed to share what happened to me … but honestly who doesn’t want to capture [their] Instagram in a fun light!!!!”
The Grammy-winner continued, “Believe it or not pretending that I’m ok has actually helped … so I decided to post this quote today because by golly if you’re going through hell … I feel like Instagram has helped me have a cool outlet to share my presence … existence … and to simply feel like I matter despite what I was going through and hey it worked.”
(The Library of Congress’ American Folklife Center wrote of the alleged Einstein quote in 2013 that “our analysis suggests that the story [behind the quote] is itself folklore.”)
It’s the “Stronger” singer’s first post since testifying that her father Jamie Spears’ control over her conservatorship has been “abusive.”
“He loved the control [he had] to hurt his own daughter, one hundred thousand percent,” Spears said about her dad during the virtual status hearing in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Justin Timberlake, Andy Cohen, Nicky and Kathy Hilton, Rose McGowan and several other stars have spoken out in defense of the singer.
