Kim Kardashian’s Skims brand collaborating with Fendi
Kim Kardashian’s latest collaboration goes from Calabasas to Italy.
After much speculation, the shapewear mogul officially announced on Monday that her Skims brand is collaborating with Fendi on a capsule collection.
Kardashian, 41, shared a series of snaps modeling designs from the unprecedented collaboration, including a pair of pantyhose and a matching bra in the same sheer material.
In addition to Skims’ signature curve-hugging hosiery and bodysuits, the ready-to-wear range will also feature tops and dresses (starting at $950), leggings ($1,100) and a puffer jacket ($2,950), per WSJ. Magazine.
“The innovation in fabrics and fit typical to Skims paired with the luxury and quality of Fendi may feel unexpected to some people, but the similarities between our creative vision and goals are so closely aligned,” Kardashian said in a press release. “It’s that tension that excites me.”
The reality star joined forces with her friend, Fendi womenswear artistic director Kim Jones, on the designs, which fuse the two brands’ aesthetics in addition to featuring a hybrid of their logos.
Jones said his team’s love for Skims sparked the idea for the collaboration, recounting a time when the women in his office “went silent and started staring at their phones” in the Italian luxury label’s Rome office.
“I didn’t know what was going on, but they were waiting for the launch of the new Skims collection,” he recalled in the press release. “It was then that I thought: let’s do something together.”
After sending the designer “a bunch” of Skims and discussing the line in Calabasas back in Dec. 2020, as she told WSJ, Kardashian later secretly met with Jones in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for a 10-hour fitting.
Now, with the collection set to launch on Nov. 9, fans of both brands will be able to shop designs that take inspiration from an archival Fendi collection first presented by Karl Lagerfeld. In addition to incorporating the 1979 sketches, which focused on “twisted tube tops, pop colors and tight sashes,” the release says the line will also include the “focus on fit and form Skims is known for.”
The often form-fitting fashions feature a variety of fabrics, ranging from Roman-inspired bonded leather dresses to bold recycled nylon sportswear and, of course, hosiery and underwear.
Both Jones and Kardashian are no stranger to headline-making collaborations: Fendi joined forces with Versace for an unprecedented “Fendace” show in Milan this fall, while Skims’ recently teamed up with the US Olympic team and launched campaigns featuring famous faces ranging from Kate Moss to Megan Fox and Kourtney Kardashian.
Kardashian, whose empire also includes the soon-to-be-relaunched KKW Beauty, told WSJ Magazine that she takes estranged husband Kanye West’s advice in consideration when working on Skims.
“He has a piece of Skims himself and gives [the team] inspiration but also information. I think he enjoys the process,” she said of the Yeezy founder, before adding, “Kanye will always be the most inspirational person to me.”
The FENDI x SKIMS collection launches on Nov. 9 at 9 a.m. EST and will be exclusively available on fendiskims.com and at select Fendi stores and retailers globally.
