Whitney Cummings on dating funny women, her top underrated comedians
Who wouldn’t want to date a funny woman?
Stand-up comedian Whitney Cummings was a guest on “Celebrate with Sean Donnelly” on SiriusXM’s Raw Dog Comedy channel where she explained why she understands how some men may be intimidated by dating women funnier than they.
“The amount of times I’ve heard people I know, fairly well, tell me that they wouldn’t be able to date a funny woman,” the radio host admitted to the female comedian.
“Let’s be honest,” Cummings shot back. “There’s a difference between funny people, and people who think they’re funny.”
The jokester, who recently self-financed her fifth Netflix special, went on to explain her annoyance with people who are “always on” and forcing the jokes, arguing that people wouldn’t be as annoyed if they dated someone who knew how to get real laughs.
“You don’t want a girl doing bits at Applebees,” the fellow comedian agreed.
Cummings would know what makes a funny woman — she’s hailed as the queen of comedy and is currently on her “TOUCH ME” stand-up tour, which spans 50 cities across North America.
As for the love life of Cummings herself, the “JOKES” producer is in a long-term relationship with Alex Barnes, a veterinarian she met at the start of the pandemic. During an appearance on “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” she revealed she serendipitously met Barnes when she brought her dog in for a visit.
Prior to dating Barnes, who is eight years her junior, Cummings was with advertising exec Miles Skinner. The pair was together for more than a year before the comedian announced their split on her podcast “Good for You.”
The 39-year-old, who originally got her start on MTV’s “Punk’d”, also took time on-air to share some of her top underrated comedians, which included former “SNL” member Jim Breuer and Boston comedian Paul Nardizzi.
Cummings’ latest special, “Whitney Cummings: JOKES,” was released this week and is available for streaming on Netflix.
