When it comes to hair and makeup, stars always step it up for the Met steps.

After all, while Vogue’s annual ball may be famous for fantastic fashion statements, it never fails to deliver equally big beauty moments — and Monday’s Met Gala 2023 red carpet was certainly no exception,

The “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”-themed fête was filled with magical makeup looks ranging from Kim Kardashian’s classic glam to Doja Cat’s feline cosplay.

And while it might be hard to get your hands on an invite to the Anna Wintour-hosted event, you can actually re-create some of its best hair and makeup moments on your own.

Below, we’ve broken down the top products stars used to prep for the stylish soirée.

Kim Kardashian

Want some pearls of wisdom from Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist? Mario Dedivanovic complemented the shapewear mogul’s pearl-covered Schiaparelli Haute Couture ensemble with products from his own Makeup by Mario line, including his buzzy SurrealSkin Liquid Foundation ($42) and the MoistureGlow Plumping Lip Color ($24) — a lip hydrator which promises a “weightless, glossy texture” — in soft nude and hot pink.

The pregnant tennis star served up a glamorous beauty look on the carpet. Her makeup artist Farzana Zaman prepped her skin with the Beautyblender Boost 18-Hour Firming & Smoothing Peptide + Ceramide Primer ($29) before applying products including the 12-Hour Always on Radiant Skin Tint ($29), a vegan formula that includes hyaluronic acid.

Nicole Kidman

Kidman’s nearly two-decade-old Chanel gown wasn’t the only thing looking fresh on Monday’s red carpet, thanks to the star’s glowing skin.

Before applying beauty products, the Oscar winner prepped her complexion with skincare from Seratopical Revolution, a brand that counts her as both an ambassador and longtime fan. Her skincare routine includes the DNA Complex ($80), which is designed to “reduce wrinkles” and layer under makeup without leaving a residue on the skin, per the product description.

Even Kardashian-Jenners love drugstore beauty buys. In addition to showing plenty of skin with her butt-baring red carpet look, the supermodel made sure her famous face was in tip-top shape with products from L’Oréal Paris, like the Revitalift Derm Intensives 1.5% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum ($22, originally $33).

Her makeup artist Mary Phillips then applied the brand’s Infallible 24 Hour Fresh Wear Foundation ($9, originally $16), Infallible Grip Gel Eyeliner ($9, originally $11) and eyeshadow from the La Palette Nude ($10).

Rihanna

The Bad Gal brought new meaning to fashionably late at the 2023 Met Gala, where she closed out the night in a stunning white Valentino gown. She complemented the style with a pop of color from her Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint ($28) in Uncensored, products including the Match Stix Matte Contour Skinstick ($32) — plus a spritz of her Fenty Eau de Parfum ($140), of course.

“For the 2023 Met Gala, we paired an iconic Rihanna-red lip with a glamorous yet edgy high-shimmer, pearlescent eye,” her makeup artist Priscilla Ono said in a press release, adding that the look “celebrated the same classic yet modern beauty of Karl Lagerfeld’s designs.”

Cardi B

Wigging out over Cardi B’s silver-haired style and luminous skin? Her makeup artist Erika La’Pearl got her ready for the big night with Murad Daily Defense Colloidal Oatmeal Cream ($54), along with the brand’s Hydrating Toner ($42).

“Cardi always embodies not only elegance but her own unconventional sense of style,” La’Pearl said of the look in a press release.

Janelle Monáe

While Monáe’s outfit transformed on the red carpet, the star’s hairstyle stayed locked in with products including Mielle Rice Water Braid Gel ($10) and Pomegranate & Honey Blend Super Hold Edge Gel ($7).

“Her super tall, structural top knot was inspired by her exaggerated tweed tuxedo,” hairstylist Nikki Nelms said in a press release.

Cara Delevingne

While the catwalker arrived sans actual cat (Karl Lagerfeld’s beloved pet, Choupette, stayed at home on Met Monday), she paid homage to the late designer with an ode to his iconic white shirts. Makeup artist Hung Vanngo used under-$20 products to complete her look, including Cetaphil Hydrating Foaming Cream Cleanser ($10, originally $11) and Moisturizing Lotion ($16, originally $17).

Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain regularly turns to Charlotte Tilbury’s TikTok-loved products for her red carpet looks. And while she switched up her hair in homage to the theme, she reached for some of her makeup go-tos for the Met, sporting a full face of the brand’s beauty buys including the popular Beautiful Skin Foundation ($49) and viral Hollywood Contour Wand ($42).

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton made her Met Gala debut with high fashion and a high ponytail to match. The latter came courtesy of products including Unite’s Hair 7Seconds Glossing Spray ($32), which is designed to keep hair “shiny, smooth and protected,” per the product description.

“Karl Lagerfeld used to have a chic pony with a hint of volume at the top so we thought it would be fun to turn up the volume as a nod to the late legend so that’s just what we did,” celebrity hairstylist Eduardo Ponce said in a press release.

Doja Cat
