Ed Sheeran’s grave is ready for him in his backyard: ‘People think it’s really weird, morbid’

Ed Sheeran morbidly revealed that his grave is ready and waiting for him within the two-story, $5.5 million private chapel in his backyard.
In an interview with GQ Hype, the “Bad Habits” hitmaker explained that he has a crypt built on his plush estate in England.
“I wouldn’t say it’s a crypt,” the 32-year-old told the outlet, clarifying that it’s actually more of a chapel.
“It’s a hole that’s dug in the ground with a bit of stone over it, so whenever the day comes and I pass away, I get to go in there.”
Sheeran said that while the chapel was being built, he thought it would be nice for his daughters Lyra Antarctica, 3, and Jupiter, 1, to be able to pay him a visit there when the day comes.
“People think it’s really weird and really morbid, but I’ve had friends die without wills, and no one knows what to do,” he added.
The 4-time Grammy winner constructed the chapel at his home after his wife, Cherry Seaborn, was diagnosed with a tumor in 2022 and the overdose death of his best friend Jamal Edwards at age 31.
Sheeran also said that he uses the chapel to mourn his late loved ones, including his grandmother whose recent funeral he was forced to miss out on due to his copyright trial in NYC.
But the place isn’t just for sad occasions — the “Castle on the Hill” hitmaker also hosts friends’ weddings there.
Sheeran and his wife opened up about their struggles in their Disney+ docuseries, “Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All,” released in May.
Speaking about Seaborn’s diagnosis in the four-part series, Sheeran called it “horrible.”

“It made me massively reflect on our mortality,” added Seaborn. “I would never agree to do anything like this but it made me think, ‘Oh if I died, what’s people’s perception of me? What do you leave behind?’”
Touching briefly on his longtime pal Edwards’ death, Sheeran added, “A series of events changed my life, my mental health, and ultimately the way I viewed music and art.”
