Meghan Markle’s estranged dad, Thomas, compares himself to King Charles: ‘I would love to speak to him’
Meghan Markle’s dad thinks he and King Charles III are one and the same.
Thomas Markle compared himself to the British monarch in a new interview, noting that they are both battling health issues while estranged from the Duchess of Sussex and her husband, Prince Harry.
“I would love to speak to him because I am sure he has as many unanswered questions as I do,” the retired TV lighting director told the Daily Mail Saturday of Charles, who was diagnosed with cancer in February.
“Neither of us deserves the treatment we’ve received,” he continued. “He is going through cancer treatment, and I’m not in the best of health.”
Thomas, 79, shared that he feels “deep empathy” for Charles, 75, whom he believes is “in the same boat” as him.
“I have so many questions I’d like to ask Meghan and Harry,” he told the newspaper. “The main one being, why have they treated not only me but the royal family and the king so badly?”
Ahead of his 80th birthday next month, the Daytime Emmy winner pointed out that he has yet to meet his grandchildren Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, both of whom were born after he tarnished his relationship with Meghan, 42, by staging paparazzi photos just before her 2018 royal wedding.
“They have two grandpas who want to see them, one of whom is the king of England,” he said. “I never in my 80 years thought I’d be in the same boat as the king.”
Thomas explained that Archie and Lilibet are “getting to the age where they will start asking questions,” so he feels it is only a matter of time until they “realize all the things they have missed out on” due to Harry, 39, and Meghan quitting their royal duties in 2020 and moving to the US.
The former photography director shared that his only wish for his upcoming birthday is to hear from Meghan, though he knows she “won’t be in touch.”
“I wish we could have worked this situation out. I was always ready and willing to do that,” he claimed despite publicly bashing the Sussexes over the years.
Since relocating to her native California, Meghan and Harry have remained close with her mother, Doria Ragland, but steered clear of seeing or talking to her father, who has never met his royal son-in-law.
The couple also has had limited contact with the prince’s family, whom they felt did not support their relationship.
Meghan and Harry infamously aired their grievances in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, and he shared further details about his family feud in his 2023 memoir, “Spare.”
Since then, the Invictus Games founder has seen his dad, Charles, and estranged brother, Prince William, only a handful of times during brief trips home to London.
