How Lady Gaga’s ‘colossal’ engagement ring from Michael Polansky could signify a lasting marriage
She’s got a diamond heart.
Lady Gaga is officially engaged — and the “Die With a Smile” singer, 38, isn’t hiding her massive ring any longer.
In fact, she caused quite a stir at the 2024 Venice Film Festival on Monday by showing up in Italy with fiancé Michael Polansky on her arm and her enormous sparkler front and center.
Experts tell Page Six Style that the oval-cut diamond looks to be around 10 carats — but could be as large as 20 carats — and estimate its value at anywhere from $500,000 to $2 million.
“Lady Gaga’s gigantic oval-cut diamond appears to be at least 12 carats. I’d estimate the value to be $1 million dollars, depending on the cut, quality and clarity,” Mike Fried of The Diamond Pro tells us.
“The ring design is elegant and timeless but is show-stopping because of the colossal diamond. Michael Polansky went all in on this ring. He likely spent months designing it and hand-selecting the diamond. Finding a beautiful, high-quality diamond of this size requires a careful eye and an enormous budget.”
Olivia Landau, founder and CEO of The Clear Cut, tells us an approximate 10-carat stone like Gaga’s could fetch $500,000 or more, while Rare Carat CEO Ajay Anand notes that if it’s closer to 20 carats, that price would climb to around $2 million.
Despite the rock’s mammoth size, the ring is actually quite understated for the “Joker: Folie à Deux” actress. Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, has been engaged twice before — and her previous engagement rings have veered much further from the beaten path.
In 2015, “Vampire Diaries” actor Taylor Kinney proposed with a Lorraine Schwartz heart-shaped diamond featuring a pavé band with their initials and a heart, which the jewelry designer said at the time was “more expensive” than some of the estimates at the time, which fell around $400,000.
After her split from Kinney, Gaga got engaged again in 2018.
This time, talent agent Christian Carino popped the question with an oval-shaped pink sapphire surrounded by a halo of colorless diamonds.
Fried calls the heart-shaped stone “unique and personalized” and the pink ring “fit for her more eccentric style at the time.” However, the expert (who did not work on any of the three sparklers) tells us that the third time could be a charm for the triple threat.
“Her ring from Michael Polansky centers on a massive diamond but is also far more classic and timeless. Her first two rings had color and character, but her engagement ring from Polansky is sophisticated and eternal,” Fried says.
“It speaks to the true bond and long-term commitment of the couple. It’s a choice that says, ‘We are going to stick together forever.'”
Gaga appeared to confirm her status as a fiancée at the 2024 Paris Olympics after sparking rumors with the diamond in April. While she was seen wearing the gem while out and about in Los Angeles this spring, she quickly ditched the blinding rock for multiple months before she was ready to comment on the couple’s status.
Gaga and Polansky have been together since 2019, and have kept their relationship relatively private.
