Patrick Mahomes is happy his signature mohawk is long gone.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, 29, is loving the new haircut, even admitting he looks “way better now” in a press conference shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Fox4 Kansas sports director Rob Collins.

“I’ve wanted to do it for a while but it was kind of one of those superstitions,” Mahomes said about chopping his locks. “I kept winning the Super Bowl, which is a good thing, but I didn’t want to cut the hair while I was doing it.”

Though the Kansas City Chiefs were trounced by Philadelphia Eagles at the Super Bowl 2025, the football star said he was set on cutting his hallmark curls after the big game.

“I had told everybody during the season that win or lose, if we win three in a row, or we lose, I’m getting the hair cut,” he explained in the press conference.

While looking back at clips from last year, Mahomes said he “can’t believe” his teammates let him “keep that nappy hair for so long.”

And don’t expect him to grow it back out any time soon. “I’ll be keeping this going forward,” the Pro Bowler confirmed.

As it turns out, Mahomes wanted to go even shorter following the Super Bowl loss, but his go-to barber, DeJuan Bonds, stopped him from doing anything too drastic.

“The whole time that I’ve been cutting his hair, he just lets me do what I do,” Bonds told Us Weekly in February.

“But when he asked for a change, he basically was like, ‘Just cut me all off.’ I was like, ‘No, no, no. We’re not just going to cut it all off.’ We’re actually going to collab on this and go a little bit at a time, take it a little bit down.”

Fortunately, it looks like Mahomes found his sweet spot.
