Kim Kardashian wears a vintage YSL stole as a top in NYC
Kim Kardashian is getting creative with couture.
The star was in NYC on Tuesday night to promote her new show on Hulu, “All’s Fair.”
With a star-studded ensemble cast including Naomi Watts, Sarah Paulson, Glen Close, Teyana Taylor and Niecy Nash, it’s no wonder the premiere events in Los Angeles, Paris, and London have been total fashion spectacles.
Last night, Kardashian was spotted leaving the Whitby Hotel in midtown wearing a fur wrap top and a silk pencil skirt.
Although it provided more coverage than some of her recent looks, the top itself was actually a vintage fox fur stole.
Kardashian chose vintage Saint Laurent for the evening. Her top was actually designed as an accessory in the fall 2003 collection, originally appearing on the runway with the oversized silk sash tied in a bow off the shoulder.
The stole also featured prominently in the design house’s print ads that season.
Online auction house 1st Dibs recently sold one in a different colorway, depicting how to twist the silk at the torso for a retro bra-top look, as Kardashian did.
The Skims founder has been known to frequently dip into the fashion archives, whether with an iconic look that bears noteworthy provenance or a simple vintage buy.
The day before, the 45-year-old stepped out in a Dominique Sirop Haute Couture corset from the designer’s 1999 fall collection.
A week before that, she rang in her 45th birthday with a vintage Givenchy corset originally modeled by Naomi Campbell on the spring 1997 Haute Couture runway.
With a steady stream of archival pieces entering Kardashian’s wardrobe, we can only imagine what her own museum-quality archive must look like.
