‘Legendary’ Mariah Carey wore a $42K diamond butterfly ring (over latex gloves!) to make Thanksgiving dinner
Turkeys and greens and insects, oh my!
When the clock strikes Thanksgiving, everyone is eager to unite over a good meal. But perhaps no one does it with more sparkly spirit than the Queen of Christmas, Mariah Carey.
The “Honey” singer, 56, shared a video on Instagram of herself preparing a massive batch of her “annual anointed greens” for Turkey Day.
In peak Mimi behavior, the five-time Grammy winner was pictured getting to work without skimping on the glam. Clad in simple black leggings with a white knit Dior sweater, the diva looked comfortable in the kitchen and clearly knew each component of her recipe.
Although it wasn’t the focus of the video, even the least observant Lambs could see that Carey’s precious custom Van Cleef & Arpels butterfly ring — a gift from the brand — sparkled amidst the abundant produce and spices.
The diamond sparkler was perched atop a pair of black latex gloves, while Carey got to work adding chicken stock, parsley and garlic to a gigantic batch of steaming greens.
In between bursts of singing, she remarked, “Yes, I’m wearing gloves. OK? That’s what I like.”
It was the unusual combination of personal protective equipment and bling, however, that caused fans to flock to the comments.
“The ring on top of the glove. Haha I friggin love you!” one wrote, while others dubbed the styling move “legendary” and “iconic.”
On a 2020 episode of supermodel Naomi Campbell’s podcast, “No Filter with Naomi,” Carey discussed the dazzling diamond ring — one of several in her collection of butterfly-themed jewels — admitting, “I never take it off.”
She even wore it throughout her pregnancy with Monroe and Moroccan Cannon, despite swelling in her hands.
The twins, whom she shares with her ex-husband Nick Cannon, were born in April 2011, so Carey has been wearing the precious piece for at least 15 years.
Carey has had an affinity for butterfly bling since the ’90s, particularly leading up to the release of her 1997 album, “Butterfly.” The motif has since become an integral part of her brand and a shared, unspoken symbol among her fans.
Similar designs, like the Van Cleef & Arpels Flying Butterfly ring, retail for $41,700. Each unique bauble is made of white gold and contains over 3 carats of diamonds in various formations.
Carey was most recently seen wearing the butterfly ring during her 2025 VMAs performance, when she was honored with the Video Vanguard Award.
For her career-spanning medley, Carey wore $10 million worth of diamonds, including a 204.38-carat “Rosée Éternelle” diamond necklace, a 72.15-carat cuff from Etho Maria, a 37.62-carat design from Hamilton Jewelers and an additional 3.25-carat ring from Levuma.
With the holiday countdown officially underway, the “All I Want for Christmas Is You” singer is just warming up for her busy season.
Here’s hoping everyone unwraps something just as sparkly — or at least a practical pair of gloves — this year.
