Blond no more: See Jessica Simpson’s new ‘hot chocolate brunette’ hair
Jessica Simpson is cozying up for the winter with some new “hot chocolate brunette” hair.
The “With You” singer, 45, recently bid farewell to her signature long blond locks in favor of a darker hue. Simpson worked with her longtime colorist, Rita Hazan, to execute the transformation.
She debuted the striking hair change on Instagram with a video teasing this Sunday’s Foxwoods Casino concert in Connecticut. In the post, Simpson is pictured wearing a pair of distressed black jeans, an animal-print jacket and chunky platform combat boots with her backup vocalists and drummer in the background.
People spoke with the celebrity colorist, who christened the shade with the festive name. “For years, we kept different variations of either blond or very blond. Just recently, I took her dirty blonde, and the shade continues to get deeper and more brunette,” Hazan shared.
As for the process itself, the drastic change actually happened pretty gradually as the pair got used to deeper tones. “It took a few hours to color because we kept making it darker and darker,” adding, “I didn’t want to go too dark at once, so we gradually increased the hue to ensure that we got the most perfect tone.”
Hazan credits Simpson’s new era of music with the change, sharing, “I think her music is very moody,” explaining that her overall look has to match the deeper, multi-dimensional vibe.
And, having worked together for almost a quarter of a century, the stylist has certainly seen Simpson through a multitude of style, music, and relationship eras.
Could there be even more in store? “This shade is pretty dark for her but maybe we could go a little darker,” the colorist teases.
Many celebrities are trying some brunette styles on for size, with the likes of Kristen Stewart, Ariana Madix and even Kate Middleton (after a short blonde stint) opting for darker hues.
As for whether or not Jessica will eventually go jet-black, like her more emo-rock sister, Ashlee?
We “L.O.V.E” the idea.
