Dua Lipa and Mariah Carey approve: The new Gucci ‘It’ coat will cost you $48K
Gucci’s wildest coat is earning its stripes.
The Italian fashion house’s tiger print shearling coat — which, at $48,000 is more akin to a luxury car purchase than a closet piece — has quickly become the most-wanted celebrity outerwear of the season.
Dua Lipa, 30, is the latest to take the Demna Gvasalia-designed piece for a spin, prowling the streets of Paris with fiancé Callum Turner in the bold coat paired with a slicked-back bun and her Bulgari Serpenti watch.
The “Houdini” singer, 30, shared an Instagram carousel Saturday featuring snaps from a dinner at French restaurant Bistrot Des Tournelles with Turner and friends, captioning the post “love letter 💌.”
She’s not the only one to sink her claws into the look this week.
“Dancing With the Stars” alum Alix Earle showed off the same coat Monday, styling it as a minidress in a TikTok captioned “Tiger king is here.” The 25-year-old social media star accessorized with dark sunglasses, tights and a Gucci Borsetto medium Boston bag ($3,100).
Mariah Carey brought the statement coat to Aspen during her multi-week designer-clad getaway in December.
The “All I Want for Christmas Is You” singer was spotted in Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Prada, Saint Laurent and more throughout the trip — but the head-to-toe Gucci look stole the show, with Carey styling the coat over the brand’s GG crystal embroidered leggings ($4,980) on December 29.
Before it hit the streets — and the slopes — the coat made its debut on screen. The coat first appeared on model Alex Consani in Gucci’s short film “The Tiger,” directed by Spike Jonze and Halina Reijn, which premiered during Milan Fashion Week in September. Consani wore the piece as a micro minidress in the film, belted with a thin gold chain.
For the Milan premiere, which drew a star-studded crowd including Gwyneth Paltrow and Serena Williams, Consani reprised her on-screen look and accessorized with chunky gold logo earrings, black heels, oversized sunglasses and a Gucci logo handbag.
Kim Kardashian opted for a different colorway, choosing the less expensive $24,000 ivory and beige version of the coat for a party during Paris Fashion Week in October. The Skims mogul styled the piece with sparkling slide sandals and, naturally, no pants.
Interview magazine editor-in-chief Mel Ottenberg took a more casual approach in January, layering the coat over a Canadian tuxedo for the premiere of Charli XCX’s “The Moment” during the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.
Even the literary world is pouncing. Bestselling author Danielle Steel got a turn in the coat at Gucci HQ, sharing a glowing review on Instagram. Steel called it “a killer piece,” noting the “incredibly intricate process” of intarsia, in which each tiny piece of fur is sewn together to create the tiger effect.
“It was a thrill to try it on and see what’s in store for their Collection,” Steel wrote. “Their new designer, Demna (previously at Balenciaga) has done them proud!!!”
