The best hair styling tools, according to celebrities and their stylists
When it comes to blow dryers and curling irons, celebrities know what’s hot.
Whether they’re making waves with beachy curls or blowing us away with a bouncy blowout, stars — and the glam teams they trust — often reach for several of the same styling tools.
So if you’re scratching your head over which to pick, we consulted celebrity hairstylists about how they keep A-listers’ tresses in tip-top shape.
Below, shop a selection of 10 star- and stylist-loved gadgets, from expert favorites to the products included in stars’ blow-by-blow red carpet prep posts.
Best hair dryers
Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer (from $429)
Like many of Dyson’s offerings, this blow dryer is likely blowing up your social media feeds. Hairstylist Kendall Dorsey — who works with stars including Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Cardi B — tells Page Six Style he uses the dryer with the diffuser attachment and a paddle brush that offers “good tension.”
It’s also racked up a long list of A-list fans like Kerry Washington, Lady Gaga — who used it to get game-ready for her Super Bowl halftime show performance in 2017 — and Julia Fox.
“The Dyson has a different motor,” the latter star (who described herself as having a “strange addiction” to hair dryers) once told the Strategist. “It’s hollow and it’s not as loud, but equally effective … and doesn’t dry out your hair.”
Harry Josh Pro Tools Pro Dryer 2000 ($249)
Hair pro Harry Josh worked with stars like Gisele Bündchen before launching his namesake product line in 2013 — and his mint green dryers have stayed fresh in Hollywood ever since.
Joseph Maine, a celebrity hairstylist who’s worked with Jennifer Aniston, Katie Holmes and Gemma Chan (to name just a few), tells us it’s his “preferred” dryer “due to its compact yet powerful design.”
“Its 9-foot cord makes it highly maneuverable, while its quiet operation allows for uninterrupted conversations,” says the expert, who serves as the artistic director for Color Wow.
“The airflow matches an impressive speed of 80 mph! My current one has been serving me faithfully for close to three years without any problems.”
Gama IQ2 Perfetto Hair Dryer ($450)
Another product in Dorsey’s style arsenal? This sleek tool, which features a deep diffuser to protect curly hair from frizz.
Meanwhile, Jonathan “Foodgod” Cheben once told Page Six Style he was even giving out the blow dryer as a holiday gift, saying: ‘“It’s the lightest hair dryer I’ve ever felt in my entire life. It’s literally like a feather, and it’s so strong it knocks you back when you turn it on.”
Pattern The Blow Dryer ($189)
Tracee Ellis Ross’ Pattern Beauty brand branched into heat tools in early 2023 with the launch of this blow dryer, designed for “curly, coily and tight textured hair.”
“Like all of us, I have a relationship with heat that started off as not a good one for my curl pattern, whether it was the physical pain of heat or the emotional pain of losing my curl pattern,” she told People of her inspiration for the tool, which offers up to six customized airflow and heat settings.
Best curling wands and irons
Hot Tools Pro Artist 24K Gold Curling Iron (from $50)
Another tool that’s hot in Hollywood? This Hot Tools iron, which Dorsey recommends as an “especially great pick for textured hair because it gets hot quickly.”
Adds the mane maestro, “It also has lower heat settings for other hair types and comes in a variety of barrel sizes … so you’ll be able to find an option that matches your particular curl type and hair texture.”
GHD Creative Curl Wand ($205)
Still ironing out the details of your hairstyling routine? GHD’s curling irons are a hit with celebrity stylists like Kimberly Gueldner, who’s worked with the likes of Amy Schumer in addition to founding Vöel Hair Studio.
“I love the creative curl wand. Its preset temperature ensures protection from heat but also a curl that will last,” she tells us. “The shape of the rod provides many different styling options for curls, which is fun.”
Maine, meanwhile, is also a fan of GHD for its Curve Curling Iron ($205), which he says “stands out for its simplicity and effectiveness.”
T3 Single Pass Curling Iron ($170)
Plenty of hair pros agree that T3’s curler is tops; Kahh Spence used it to recreate Beyoncé’s “B’day” album ‘do for a Vogue video, while celebrity stylist Mara Roszak told People she’s “loving” it for curls that are “shiny and not overheated.”
Beachwaver S1 Dual Rotating Curling Iron ($149)
Just call it going from “Work from Home” to styling at home. Celebrity stylist Sarah Potempa founded Beachwaver in 2010, and has long used its curling irons on celebrity client Camila Cabello.
“You press a button, and it does it for you, which is great. Without the button, it can take a long time — and it’s an arm workout,” Cabello herself once told Harper’s Bazaar of the rotating styling tool.
Best hair straighteners and flat irons
Trademark Beauty Sunny Styler ($89)
Maine’s mane-styling go-tos also include this flat iron from his own line, which he tells us he’s “currently obsessed” with.
“This flat iron simplifies both straightening and curling,” he explains, adding that its air vent system “instantly cools the hair, helping to secure the style, enhance shine, and minimize heat-related damage.”
Dyson Corrale Hair Straightener ($500)
It just might be hard to keep all of Dyson’s celebrity fans straight. In addition to its famed dryers, the brand’s hair straightener is a favorite of Hailey Bieber’s; she once put the tool to the test in a “night out” hair tutorial on her YouTube channel.
Revlon Smooth Brilliance Ceramic Hair Flat Iron ($33)
For something easier on the wallet, Revlon’s flat iron rings in at under $40. Famed hairstylist Jen Atkin — who’s known for her work with the Kardashians, Jennifer Lopez and more — uses the top-rated tool in her MasterClass, per the Hollywood Reporter.
GHD Platinum+ Styler ($279)
Looking to spice up your beauty routine with a Posh Spice-loved tool? While celebrities including Zendaya and Jessica Alba have used GHD’s curling irons, famed hairstylist Guido Palau used the brand’s straighteners on models at Victoria Beckham’s fashion show to “really give that shiny, smooth texture” that exuded “high-maintenance simplicity,” as he told Harper’s Bazaar UK in 2017.
Best hair waver tools
Mermade Hair Pro Pink 32mm Waver ($79)
If trying a crimped ‘do is on your to-do list, consider wavers like the celebrity-loved Mermade styler. Bieber, Sofia Richie, Rita Ora and Larsa Pippen have all used the viral gadget for styling their strands in both beachy waves and Old Hollywood-esque styles.
Mane by Mane Addicts Triple Ripple Jumbo Hair Waver ($75)
Jen Atkin’s products just might be as celebrity-loved as the stylist herself. The Kardashian family’s go-to hair guru has founded not just one, but two haircare brands over the years: Ouai, which is focused on products, and Mane Addicts, which offers styling tools and accessories.
In addition to the This Totally Blows! Hair Dryer ($125), the latter’s offerings include this waver tool designed for a “creaseless, frizz-free, tousled style,” per the product description.
Best multitasking styling tools
Dyson AirWrap Multi-Styler ($599)
Celebrities like Kylie Jenner aren’t keeping their favorite styling tools under wraps. The makeup mogul used Dyson’s famed AirWrap Multi-Styler in a TikTok, while Lindsay Lohan called the tool “really nice and easy” in a recent Allure interview.
T3 AireBrush Duo ($190)
Want to “Shake it Up” with a new beauty gadget? Zendaya’s hairstylist Antoinette Hill used this under-$200 blow dryer brush to execute her updo for the 2022 Oscars.
