Julia Fox’s most iconic looks: From Kanye’s muse to daring NYFW darling
Muses gotta muse.
Julia Fox rose to style-star status while dating Kanye West in early 2022, surprising fashion fans with one jaw-dropping look after the next.
But while many first became aware of the actress’ style chops thank to Ye, she was rocking experimental ensembles long before linking up with the controversial rapper.
From the sheer, shimmering Paco Rabanne skirt she sported to the 2019 premiere of “Uncut Gems” to the dizzying Jean Paul Gaultier dress once spotted on fellow West ex Kim Kardashian, Fox has always known how to make a fashion statement — and her looks outfits have only gotten more daring with time.
Once the former dominatrix moved on from West, she really upped her sartorial game, delivering plenty of description-defying style moments everywhere from the streets of her native New York to Milan Fashion Week.
And while some have accused Fox of copying Kardashian’s style — and vice versa — over the years, the “Down the Drain” author told Vanity Fair (while hooked up to a lie detector, no less) that any similarities between their styles are probably pure coincidence.
“I don’t know if I’m on her mood board or anything like that,” she quipped.
Below, check out 15 of Fox’s most memorable looks so far.
Gems and gams
Fox was perfectly on theme in a crystal-covered Paco Rabanne midi for the premiere of “Uncut Gems” in 2019, pairing her see-through skirt with a simple black turtleneck bodysuit, pointy black pumps and a bold red lip.
The actress’ pronunciation of the movie’s title would go on to inspire many a meme.
Twinning with Kim
In 2021, Fox attended a Jean Paul Gaultier party during Paris Fashion Week wearing the same sheer, striped illusion dress seen on Kim Kardashian at the 2018 People’s Choice Awards.
The indie-film ingenue styled the see-through design with a strapless black bra, pointy-toed Christian Louboutin pumps and hot pink lipstick.
Double denim
Unsurprisingly, Fox’s style shifted once she started dating West, with the “Flashing Lights” rapper famously having a penchant for dressing his romantic partners.
The mom of one coordinated with West in matching Canadian tuxedos — and debuted her infamous black winged “Fox eye” makeup — for their first red carpet appearance as a couple during Paris Fashion Week in January 2022.
While the musician and Yeezy designer wore a Balenciaga denim jacket and matching jeans, she channeled Madonna in a cropped Schiaparelli jacket with cone-bra details and jeans featuring attached denim boots.
Leather weather
The new couple twinned in black leather looks at the Schiaparelli show, with Fox donning another pointy-breasted ‘fit consisting of a corseted leather minidress with thigh-high black boots.
She wore an even more exaggerated “Fox eye” for the occasion, adding enormous gold earrings and a purse shaped like a padlock to complete her look.
Tanks a lot
Post-Kanye, Julia’s style took a sexier — and more creative — turn, with the model sporting a range of barely-there looks like a single white Hanes tank sliced into a crop top and skirt. She gave the underboob-baring outfit another unusual twist by pairing it with shiny black leather gloves and thigh-high boots.
“The fun thing about this is that you can really decide if you want it to be a bra, or you want it to be a crop top,” she explained in an Instagram tutorial for the style in March 2022.
Get a grip
The 2022 Vanity Fair Oscar Party brought yet another head-turning look for Fox, who wore a neck-gripping black leather gown by Copenhagen-based designer Han Kjobenhavn along with a very hairy handbag.
“This is real human hair,” Fox told Vanity Fair at the party, later dialing back on her comment by saying, “I think it is. I mean, I think so. I mean, it looks like it.”
So Seks-y
Seks — which would go on to become one of Fox’s favorite labels — entered the chat in May 2022, with the star donning the NYC streetwear label’s $450 Titty Smasher bikini top and 9-inch-tall Pleaser platforms to take a stroll around Los Angeles.
She paired the flame-inspired bra and towering boots with shiny, low-rise latex pants and an itty-bitty Balenciaga bag.
Undiecover shopper
Fox made headlines the same month when she gave a casual grocery run a racy twist by shopping in her skivvies. The street style star sported a comfy black Alexander Wang cotton bra with matching panties while visiting a Hollywood grocery store, covering up with a denim blazer (worn open, of course).
She added slouchy Alexander Wang denim boots and a coordinating bag, later writing of her skin-baring look in a since-deleted Instagram post, “I just think that if it’s socially acceptable at the beach it should be the same everywhere lol.”
Horsing around
Fox made a splash at New York Fashion Week in February 2023, and one of her most memorable looks entailed quite the interesting addition. The New Yorker hit the shows in a hooded black leather crop top that revealed plenty of underboob, pairing it with a matching maxi skirt that featured butt cutouts and a horse’s tail hanging from the back.
While the outfit might have plenty of neighsayers, Fox — who fittingly accessorized with Thom Browne’s $3,300 Fox bag — looked like the picture of confidence in front of photographers.
Body double
Fox closed out the week with a bang by lugging a life-sized “body bag” down the streets of NYC.
Created by Canadian designer Mikhael Kale, the 6-foot style was taller than Fox herself and featured a blond wig and glossy platform boots that perfectly matched the model’s.
Fox kept the rest of her look relatively low-key to let her bag do all the talking, wearing a cotton mini from the Seks x Hanes collaboration with a puffed-sleeve black leather jacket and fiery red hair.
Playing it safe
In May 2023, Fox shocked onlookers by wearing a clear bandeau top and knee-high boots covered in condoms, along with a prophylactic-adorned purse to match.
While she may have been advocating for safe sex, there was nothing tame about this getup.
Breast dressed
Fox’s condom outfit was just the start of her all-clear-everything era, with the model wowing fans in a glass-like top at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival later in May 2023. She styled her clear halter by Cameron Hancock with nothing underneath, adding a dramatic white bubble skirt from designer Liwen Sang and around $50,000 worth of Marli New York diamonds to finish the ensemble.
Fox went on to wear two more see-through ‘fits that same week, including a cellophane-like Nicolas Jebran gown and a clear tunic-and-trouser combo.
Chain reaction
Fox made her outrageous return to New York Fashion Week in September 2023, clad in an itty-bitty metal bikini from Seks that might have been her most bare look yet.
She wore the nearly nude ensemble to the Naomi Campbell x PrettyLittleThing runway show, covering up with a black faux leather trench from the supermodel’s collection. She kept the goth theme going by adding black lipstick and black booties, carrying a Hodakova purse decorated with upcycled belt buckles.
Good girl gone plaid
Fox celebrated the release of her memoir, “Down the Drain,” sporting a sexy twist on a schoolgirl uniform.
In addition to a mind-bending backless top inspired by a traditional white shirt and tie, she wore a pleated plaid Chopova Lowena miniskirt studded with metal D-rings.
The author accessorized with multi-buckled Marc Jacobs platform boots ($595) and her beloved Hodakova belt bag.
To Di for
Fox showed her love for Princess Diana during a trip to London in October 2023, wearing a corset adorned with the late royal’s face. The Frances O top, which tied at the shoulders with ivory ribbon, featured a needlepoint depiction of Diana wearing the Lover’s Knot Tiara and is available to rent for £100 ($121) a week.
She gave the corset a classic Julia twist by wearing it with another Chopova Lowena skirt ($1,140), this time a white lace style suspended from a wide white belt with silver rings. Matching cowboy boots, an oversized hair bow and a patriotic Union Jack purse finished off her royally good ‘fit.
What does Fox’s fashion future hold? Only time will tell — but we’ll certainly be watching.
